Solaris Cultural and Entertainment Centre (Tallinn - Estonia)

The Solaris Building – a multifunctional centre which, in terms of design and technology, is unparalleled in the Baltic States – was opened in the Estonian capital of Tallinn in October 2009. The modern, 5-storey building is the city’s new multifunctional cultural and entertainment centre, accommodating 12 halls for conferences, ballet and theatre performances as well as retail spaces, cafes and restaurants, cinemas and a concert hall that extends to the full height of the building and can seat 1830 people. To minimise noise nuisance from the various spaces and the concert hall, the doors needed to have an insulating capacity of at least 48 dB (Rw) and they needed to be fire-resistant as well. Merford supplied sound-insulating doors with a fire-resistance of 30 and 60 minutes. One of these doors is as much as 3.5 metres high.
