Burglar-resistant grilles for High-Speed Railway Line-South (The Netherlands)

The High-Speed Railway Line-South project is designed to offer growing numbers of travellers a safe and eco-friendly alternative to car and plane. Despite its maximum speed of 300 km/hour, the high-speed train is at least as safe and similarly eco-friendly as a regular train. At the same time the High-Speed Line is sustainable: it is being built for at least 100 years. The quality of the track is guaranteed for a long time thanks to the special contract form and far-reaching partnership with private parties. Tunnel buildings have been built as part of the superstructure. They consist of transformer buildings, HVAC rooms and generator rooms and are fitted with rain and burglar resistant grilles for the supply and extraction of air.

In view of the long service life required and the expertise of Merford in the burglar-proof grille field, the customer chose Merford as supplier of these grilles. Merford also has experience in the infrastructure project field: for instance, it supplied the escape doors in the sound-reducing screen of the Betuwe Line and most tunnels in the Netherlands are fitted with Merford’s fire-resistant escape doors. The burglar-resistant grilles that Merford supplied and installed are of the HNR type and are of stainless steel construction.

Thanks to the unique use of overlapping louvres, the grilles are highly burglar-resistant without generating too much air resistance. The grilles are provided with a coloured coating. The underlying steel construction is fully galvanised and coated. The access doors are integrated into the grille facades as part of the overall construction, giving it all a smooth and attractive appearance.
